2025

A few natural dye paintings of wild mushrooms will be breaking it down in We Are All Compost at Big Ramp Gallery in Philly, curated by William Schwaller. March 15-Apr 19.

Grateful to receive a Professional Development Grant from the WV Department of Arts, Culture, and History for the creation of new natural dye paintings.

2024

Thank you Myers Foundations for another Faculty Research Award, this time for developing paintings using natural dyes.

2023

A few new oil paintings will be hanging in Text at Joyce Goldstein Gallery curated by Eric Wolf. Sept 10-Oct 15.

I’m honored to have received a Myers Foundations Faculty Distinguished Research Award to develop mycocomposite mold making and substrate formulas.

Lancaster News: Art made from mushroom foam, walnut ink and more featured in Sustainable Studios exhibit by Mike Andrelczyk.

My new work with mycocomposites will be up at Millersville University in Sustainable Studios (Feb-May). Curated by Heidi Leitzke.

2022

Shout out to Eric Hibit for including me in the “Working wth Natural Dyes” section of his book Color Theory for Dummies, published in September.

Eight new bio-ink paintings will be included in The Gift at Taylor Books in Charlseston, WV curated by Mike Calway-Fagan.

Excited to join the faculty at West Virginia University as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Art teaching Painting and 2D Foundations.

Grow Forward Together, a kombucha biofilm mural painted with bio-based inks, will be hanging in Woskob Gallery’s window until July 2022 (State College, PA). NET ZERO 2035!!

Thrilled to have my work and teaching featured in an article in the Davidson Journal. Time to Act: Fighting For Our Imperiled Earth.

2021

My show Huumannatuure Lab will be up at Smith Gallery at Davidson College from Aug-Sept. In conjunction I will be giving workshops on bioplastics, mushroom, foam, kombucha leather, and mending as well as hosting conversations about material health and climate resiliency with the Davidson community.

I will be Joining the faculty at Davidson College for the 2021-22 school year teaching painting, drawing, and Climate Art and Action.

My solo exhibition, Biophilia, will be at One River School in Woodbury, NY from Feb 20- Apr 9. Bio-based ink paintings framed with reclaimed chestnut!

I organized and will be moderating a panel discussion for the College Art Association conference on Biodegradable Art on Jan 2. Thank you Yi Hsuan Sung, Katie Taylor, Judi Pettite, and Maria Whiteman for joining me!

2020

I will present my work in September in an online lecture titled Science Fiction as part of the Anderson Endowed Lecture series at Penn State. Octavia Butler, George Orwell, Margaret Atwood - they warned us!

Thank you to the Sustainability Institute and Rock Ethics Institute at Penn State for awarding me the SHAPE GHG Mitigation Grant, to fund research into GHG emissions in art materials. I will be working with Jeffrey Catchmark, Kim Flick, and Alex Russell on this project.

I have joined the Climate Crossover team at Penn State, and we are working to get climate discussions into all classes. Projects will be funded by a grant from the Studio for Sustainability and Social Action.

2019

I was awarded a Faculty Research Grant from the College of Arts and Architecture at Penn State to continue research and development of art-making processes using biodegradable materials. Yes!

I am so exciting to begin a new adventure at Penn State School of Visual Arts this fall! As a Visiting Artist/Assistant Professor I will be researching non-toxic biodegradable art materials like mushroom foam, kombucha leather, bioplastics, and botanical dyes and teaching painting and drawing classes.

Honored to be included in such a terrific group show at One Gap Gallery in Brooklyn. Sense of Place curated by Michael Holden. May 10-Aug 26.

Michael Holden is putting together a great line-up of artists working with text which will be at Park Place Gallery March 29-April 7. Opening March 29th 6-10pm. Camp Fire will be there and it will be scary hot.

Will be at the Artist Lecture Series in Greenpoint on Jan 29th talking about the work that’s come out the residencies I’ve attended in the past three summers.

2018

I have three new paintings up in Ecophilia, curated by Phil and Sue Knoll, at The Berkshire Botanical Garden. Oct 12- Nov 21. What a wonderful group of nature lovers they’ve brought together!

In the coming weeks I’ll be setting up a participatory drawing station to raise awareness of the NY Health Act at several locations around NY, and the drawings will be displayed at The Forward Union Fair in Chelsea on Sept 29-30.

Chain Chain Chain, Sept 15- Oct 28, will be the last show at Jeff Bailey Gallery. The modular triangle piece that I made this summer at Kingsbrae is included, but how do we go on?

What a privilege it was to participate in the Forward Union Fair in Dec 2017. I worked with ten artists to create portraits of all 63 NY State Senators. NO IDC NY!

I now have a very sophisticated collection of 16x20" works on paper by 8 stellar artists (including me) thanks to Art for Artists.

My work went to New Orleans before me! Thanks Aaron Collier for including me in Make Space at Staple Goods. Jul 8-Aug 6 2017.

The Longest Day opens at Jeff Bailey Gallery in Hudson, NY on June 24 2017 and runs until August 6. Last June I made a collection of sun prints on canvas at the Vermont Studio Center and I've been working into those for the past year. Excited to show you!

I can't wait to spend July and August in Wyoming at the Jentel residency. I'm thinking of working on some plein air dyeing and wall collages.

The opening of my two-person show with Sarah Bednarek at Flecker Gallery (Suffolk Community College) will be Thursday Feb 16 1:30-3:00. The show runs until Mar 7 2017. Catalog with forward by Matthew Neil Gehring and essay by Karen Schiff available.
